Peace Corps Day is a holiday and is celebrated every year on March 1. The day marks the volunteers of the Peace Corps program. In 1961, President John F. In 1961, President John F. Kennedy founded the Peace Corps as a U.S. agency of volunteers on March 1, 1961. the U.S. Congress gave approval for the Peace Corps Act. Kennedy’s brother-in-law, Sargent Shriver was the first director of the Peace Corps on 22 September 1961.
