NSO report 2020: Women and Men in India
The National Statistical Office has published a report regarding Women and Men in India. the report highlights the crucial socio-economic indicators that portray the gender situation in India. National Statistical Office functions under the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI).
- The report is published annually by the MoSPI.
Population Statistics
- It is estimated that the population of India in 2021 is 136.13 crores.
- The sex ratio has risen to 943 in 2011 from 933 in 2001.
- Delhi has the highest increase in the sex ratio. Chandigarh, Arunachal Pradesh got the 2nd and 3rd place in the term of highest sex ratio.
- In the contrast, Daman and Diu registered for the highest decline in the sex ratio.
Health Statistics
- females Fertility Rate (age group 25-29 years ) was 146.4.
- The Infant Mortality Rate has come to 32 in 2018, before this, it was 39 in 2014.
- The Maternal Mortality Rate also declined from 212 in the year 2007-09 to 113 in 2016-18.
- The Adolescent Fertility Rate dropped to 12.2 in 2018 from 13 in 2017.
- The HIV incidence also declined to 0.05 in 2019 from 0.07 in 2017 per 1000 people.
Education Statistics
- The literacy rate of India increased from 73 in 2011 to 77.7 in 2017.
- Rajasthan, Bihar, UP have the highest Gender gap in literacy rates.
