PM Modi to address BJP National Executive meeting in New Delhi
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is to address the concluding session of the BJP National Executive meeting on 17th January 2023. BJP President J. P. Nadda inaugurated the two-day National Executive meeting at NDMC Convention Centre in New Delhi.
- The tenure of Nadda as the Party president can be extended. A mega exhibition based on six different themes including Good Governance First, Inclusive and Empowered India and Vishwa Guru Bharat was held at the meeting venue.

Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal Presented the National Startup Awards 2022 winners in New Delhi on 16th January 2023. Minister also launched the MAARG platform (Mentorship, Advisory, Assistance, Resilience, and Growth) to facilitate mentorship between startups and entrepreneurs across sectors, stages, and functions. MAARG platform will allow startups to connect with mentors and discuss their mentorship needs.

UN lists Pakistan based Abdul Rehman Makki a global terrorist
The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) listed Pakistan-based terrorist Abdul Rehman Makki as a global terrorist. Makki is the brother-in-law of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) chief and 26/11 mastermind Hafiz Saeed.
- Makki is involved in raising funds, recruiting, and radicalizing the youth to plan attacks in India, especially in Jammu and Kashmir.
- India and the United States already listed Makki as a terrorist.
Russia, and Belarus joint military exercises
Russia and Belarus started joint military exercises on 16th January 2023 and will conduct air force drills till 1st February 2023 using all Belarus military airfields.

1st Health Working Group meeting under G-20 India Presidency to be held in Kerala
The 1st Health Working Group meeting under G-20 India Presidency will be conducted between 18th January and 20th January 2023 in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. On 1st December 2022, India assumed the presidency of the G-20. The theme is ‘One Earth, One Family, One Future’ enunciates India’s philosophy of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’.
- The Health Track of the G-20 India Presidency will include four Health Working Group (HWG) Meetings and one Health Ministerial Meeting (HMM).
- Such meetings are to be conducted in different locations including Thiruvananthapuram (Kerala), Goa, Hyderabad (Telangana) and Gandhinagar (Gujarat).

- Priority I: Health Emergencies Prevention, Preparedness and Response (with a focus on One Health & AMR)

- Indian Air Force deployed woman fighter pilot squadron leader Avani Chaturvedi to Japan for the exercise Veer Guardian 2023.
- the Veer Guardian 2023 exercise will be held between 16 and 26 January 2023 at the Hyakuri Air Base and its surrounding airspace in Omitama, as well as the Iruma Air Base in Sayama in Japan.
Who is Avani Chaturvedi?
- Avani Chaturvedi is a Su-30MKI pilot and one of India’s first three women fighter pilots who will depart for Japan.
- She was born, raised, and completed her education in Madhya Pradesh.
- After 6 months of intensive training at the Air Force Academy in Dundigal, Hyderabad, She was inducted into the IAF fighter squadron.
Veer Guardian 2023: The Maiden India-Japan Air Exercise
- Veer Guardian exercise is a 15-day-long bilateral exercise and will be held at Hyakuri Air Base, Japan.
- The exercise aims to strengthen the Air Defence cooperation between the Indian Air Force (IAF) and Japan Air Self Defence Force (JASDF).

21st Naval Exercise VARUNA between India and France begins
The 21st edition of the bilateral naval exercise between India and France was started on the western seaboard on 16th January 2023 and will be held till 20th January 2023. The exercise will include the participation of indigenous guided missile stealth destroyer INS Chennai, guided missile frigate INS Teg, maritime patrol aircraft P-8I and Dornier, integral helicopters and MiG29K fighter aircraft.
- The exercise aims to facilitate operational-level interaction between the two navies and will help in fostering mutual cooperation for good order at sea, underscoring the shared commitment of both nations to security, safety and freedom of the global maritime commons.

Yonex- Sunrise India Open 2023 to start in Delhi
The India Open will be held in New Delhi from 17th January 2023 and will be held at the KD Jadhav Indoor Hall till 22nd January 2023. The India Open is officially known as Yonex- Sunrise India Open 2023. It will be held in the super 750 status category for the first time.
- The top players from 29 countries and a total of 97 players will participate in the tournament in various categories – Men’s singles, Women’s singles, Men’s Doubles, Women’s Doubles, and Mixed Doubles.
India beat UAE by 122 runs in Women’s U-19 T20 World Cup
India defeated United Arab Emirates (UAE) by 122 runs in the U-19 T20 Women’s Cricket World Cup at Willowmoore Park, Benoni in South Africa. India set a target of 220 runs, and UAE managed to score 97 for the loss of five wickets in the stipulated 20 overs.
- Shweta Sehrawat made a brilliant unbeaten 74 in 49 balls. Captain Shafali Verma scored 78 runs in 34 balls and was declared Player of the Match.
- India will play against Scotland on Thursday (19th January 2023) in the Women’s U-19 T20 World Cup.
