Eid-e-Milad 2023 Date and Time: Eid-e-Milad is celebrated as the birthday of the Islamic Prophet Muhammad each year. The Prophet was believed to be born in Mecca on the 12th day of Rabee-ul-Awwal, the third month in the Islamic calendar, to Abdullah and Bibi Amina. Some think that he was born on the 17th of Rabi’ al-awwal. Significantly, the day is also observed as the death anniversary of the Prophet.

In 2023, the day will start on the evening of Wednesday, September 27 and end on the evening of Thursday, September 28, 2023. As per the Shia community, on this day, the Prophet had chosen Hazrat Ali as his successor. The Sunni community conducted prayer meetings throughout the day. People also celebrate Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi by taking out large processions and decorating their homes.
As per the legend, the Muslim ruler to first officially observe Prophet Muhammad’s birthday was Muzaffar al-Din Gökböri. The Ottomans then proclaimed it as an official holiday in 1588, known as Mevlid Kandil.
