ICAO Signs MoU with International Solar Alliance – The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and International Solar Alliance (ISA) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to check the growth of CO2 emissions in the sector. The MoU aims to ensure the lowering of carbon emissions and is to act as fiduciary responsible holders for the next generation, creating an environment that is sustainable for generations to come.
- MoU between ISA and ICAO also marks the legacy of the bold initiative laid down by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and former President of France Francois Hollande in 2015 at COP 21 in Paris.
- India will be looking for a Net Zero Carbon goal in 2070 in COP 26 and has planned to set up 175 GW of renewable energy of which 100 GW will be solar energy by 2022 and a reduction in emission intensity by 33-35% by 2030.
- In 2015, Cochin International Airport in India became the world’s first fully Solar powered airport in the world.
