IndiGo as first airline to use indigenous navigation system GAGAN – IndiGo has become the 1st airline in the country to land aircraft using the indigenous navigation system GAGAN. The 1st flight was conducted using an ATR-72 aircraft and was landed at the Kishangarh airport in Rajasthan using GPS-aided geo-augmented navigation (GAGAN).
What is GPS-aided geo-augmented navigation (GAGAN)
- GAGAN provides lateral and vertical guidance when an aircraft is approaching a runway for landing.
- It will also modernise the airspace, reduce flight delays, save fuel and improve flight safety.
