International Chess Day 2021: History, Significance
Every year. International Chess Day is celebrated on July 20. Chess was invented in India in the fifth century and was named “Chaturanga”. the International Chess Federation (FIDE) observes International Chess Day every year as the founding day. in 2021, it will be FIDE’s 97th anniversary, and World Chess Day encourages people to play and enjoy the game.
International Chess Day: History
On 20th July 1924, the FIDE (World Chess Federation) was founded at the 8th summer Olympic Games in Paris, France. International Chess Day started as the founding day of the FIDE on the same day July 20th, 1966.
UN General Assembly unanimously adopted resolution 74/22 to designate the day of July 20 as World Chess Day.
