Malta Republic Day, also known as ‘Jum ir-Repubblika’ is celebrated in Malta on December 13 each year. It marks the anniversary of the creation of the Republic of Malta. It is a public holiday. Malta is an archipelago in the central Mediterranean, between Sicily and the North African coast. Malta is famous for its historic sites related to a succession of rulers including the Romans, Moors, Knights of Saint John, French and British. It is a tiny nation with just more than 500,000 people.
Malta Republic Day – History
On 13 December 1974, the constitution of Malta was revised, which resulted in the transformation of the State of Malta into a republic, effectively repealing the role of Reġina ta’ Malta (Queen of Malta) in the country. Also, Sir Anthony Mamo was named the first president of the country.
