- An Italian engraver Francesco Rampazetto, created the scrittura tattile, a device that imprints characters on paper, in 1575.
- Henry Mill obtained a patent for a machine that seems to have been similar to a typewriter.
- An American inventor William Austin Burt invented the typographer, which was a precursor to the modern-day typewriter in the year 1829.
- In 1866, The 1st version of the modern typewriter with the Qwerty layout was created. Christopher Latham Sholes, Carlos Glidden, and Samuel W. Soule applied for a patent for the first typewriters manufactured for commercial use.
- The first commercially successful typewriter was then finally launched to the market in 1874.
