The Italian soccer federation banned Newcastle midfielder Sandro Tonali for betting on teams he played for and ruled him out of the rest of the Premier League season as well as competing for Italy at 2024’s European Championship. The 23-year-old Tonali becomes the 2nd player suspended in the widening case.
Tonali will not be allowed to play Euro 2024, which runs from June 14 to July 14. Defending champion Italy has not qualified yet.
Juventus midfielder Nicolò Fagioli was banned for 7 months. Tonali was brought by Newcastle from Milan in an expensive transfer in the offseason and the Italy international signed a five-year contract with the English club.
