Omicron Cases In India – Live Updates
27th December 2021:
- The number of Omicron cases in India has reached 578. in which 142 cases were reported in Delhi and Maharashtra (31 new Omicron cases on Monday). Followed by, 57 cases in Kerala, 49 in Gujarat and 43 in Rajasthan. The total number of discharged Omicron patients stands at 151.
- Maharashtra reports 31 Omicron infections.
- West Bengal has 6 cases so far while Haryana, Odisha and Andhra Pradesh have 4 cases each.
- Other states that have reported Omicron strain they are Jammu and Kashmir (3 cases), Uttar Pradesh (2 cases) and Ladakh (one case). The union territories of Chandigarh and Ladakh have reported 1 case each.
What is Omicron?
- It is a new variant of SARS-CoV-2 that has recently been reported from South Africa on 24th November 2021 called as B.1.1.529 or Omicron (based on Greek alphabets like alpha, beta, delta etc).
