Every year, Slovenia’s Independence Day is celebrated on December 26 to commemorate the day the Slovenian independence referendum was proclaimed in 1990. The referendum was held three days earlier on December 23 wherein 95% of the voters preferred the establishment of an independent Slovene state. It was originally called Independence Day later its name was changed in 2005

The Republic of Slovenia is a central European country and is bordered by Italy, Austria, Hungary, and Croatia. Independence and Unity Day is celebrated each year on June 25, in honour of the declaration of Slovenian independence from Yugoslavia in 1991.
