State of Climate Services Report 2020
UN World Meteorological Organization (UN WMO) has issued the State of Climate Services Report 2020. UN WMO is known as a specialized agency of the United Nations. it is responsible for paying international supports on atmospheric science, climatology, hydrology and geophysics released the State of Climate Services Report 2020.
- On 13th October 2020, UN WMH introduced the Report on International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction.
Points to Remember –
- the report says the number of people taking the international humanitarian system is expected to boost by 50 per cent at a cost of almost 20 billion US Dollars a year by the end of 2030.
- Due to storms, floods, droughts and wildfires, almost 108 million people wanted to take help from the international humanitarian system in the year 2018.
About State of Climate Services Report 2020:
- The report covers 16 different case studies such as tropical cyclones and hurricanes, floods, droughts, heatwaves, forest fires, sand and dust storms, desert locusts, severe winters and glacial lake outbursts.
- it provides suggestions to change to impact-based forecasting that will be an evolution from “what the weather will be” to “what the weather will do”.
