UN French Language Day (Journée de la langue française) is observed annually on 20 March. In 2010, the day was created by the UN’s Department of Public Information “to celebrate multilingualism and cultural diversity and to promote equal use of all six official languages throughout the Organization”.

History of UN French Language Day
- The date of 20 March was selected as the date since it “coincides with the 40th anniversary of the International Organization of La Francophonie”. The French language promotes humanist values.
