World Cancer Day 2024: – Every year, World Cancer Day is observed on 4th February across the world. the initiative is led by the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC). The main objective of Cancer Day is to prevent millions of deaths by creating more awareness and offering education about cancer and pressing governments and individuals across the world to take action against the disease.

World Cancer Day is an international awareness day and is celebrated on February 4 every year. Cancer is caused by uncontrolled, abnormal growth of cells in the body that causes lumps or tumours in most cases. If left untreated, tumors can expand and extend to other body parts and affect all body functions.
World Cancer Day: History
- In 2000, World Cancer Day originated during the first World Summit Against Cancer, the summit was held in Paris, France.
- The Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) designated this day to support the goals of the World Cancer Declaration, written in 2008.
World Cancer Day 2024: Theme
- The Theme of 2024 is “Close the cancer gap.”
- The theme of World Cancer Day 2023 is “Close the Care Gap”
- The theme of World Cancer Day 2022 is ‘Close the Care Gap’.
- The theme 2021 of World Cancer Day is: ‘I Am And I Will’ and is a reminder of the enduring power of cooperation and collective action.
Significance
Dr Moeti says in the message for World Cancer Day.
“This year marks the third and final year of the campaign. The theme for this year is ‘Together, we challenge those in power’. The 2024 theme highlights the global demand for leaders to prioritize and invest in cancer prevention and care and to do more to achieve a just and cancer-free world.

- Pain or ache that comes and goes
- New moles or changes in the appearance of moles

- Sudden weight loss
